Red Sindon
By J. R. PLANCHÉ.
I have only just seen your correspondent, B.W.'s Query respecting the "red sindon," and refer him to Du Cange, where he will find— "Sindon pro specie panni [Byssus tenuis], etc." It was a manufacture that was used for dresses as well as hangings, and is constantly mentioned in inventories and descriptions of the middle ages.
